Introduction

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.), or Soviet Union, was the first country to form a government based on the system known as Communism. It was in existence from 1922 to 1991. However, it was one of the most powerful countries in the world during a significant portion of that time.

Land

The Soviet Union was the largest country to ever exist. It covered nearly two-thirds the United States' total area and more than 8.6million sq. miles (22.3 million square kilometers) in Europe.

The Soviet Union was made up of 15 states or republics. The largest and most powerful was the Russian republic, now called Russia. The modern names for the republics are Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The capital of the Soviet Union was Moscow.

People

In its last years, the Soviet Union had more than 299 million inhabitants. This makes it the third-largest country in the world. The country was home to more than 100 ethnicities. Ethnic Russians were the largest group. The next largest group were Uzbeks, Belarusians, and Uzbeks, followed closely by Ukrainians, Uzbeks, and Kazakhs. Russian was the nation's language. There were however more than 200 languages.

The Soviet government did not approve of religion. The Russian Orthodox Christian Church survived, despite this. There were many Muslims and Islam-followers in some republics.

During the Soviet Union's existence, millions of people moved from their farms to cities. By 1991, two out of three Soviet citizens lived in a city. Moscow, Saint Petersburg (now Saint Petersburg), and Kiev (now in Ukraine) were the largest cities.

Culture( USSR Full Form Hindi )

The government controlled all aspects of Soviet Union life. The government was outlawed from the streets. The government also banned artistic expression in the 1930s and 1940s. Artists and writers were not allowed to speak negatively about the Soviet system. The government sent many writers and artists to prison. Others fled the country.

Many Soviet writers continue to produce outstanding work. In 1958, Boris Pasternak received the Nobel prize for literature. It was awarded to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in 1970. Pasternak declined the award, and Solzhenitsyn was expelled from the country.

Economy

During its peak, the Soviet Union was one the most powerful economies on the planet. The country's wealth was largely derived mainly from agriculture, mining and heavy industry. The government completed many large-scale projects such as dams and canals.

Communist teachings state that no one should own a business. The Soviet Union owned almost all of its factories and businesses. The Communist Party leaders decided what products would be made and how much each person would pay. This system led to shortages of many essential products.

The Communist system was also supposed to give workers and farmers a fair share of the country's wealth. The government took farmers' land and set up large farms called collective farms. This caused huge hardship for the farmers. In order to feed its people, the Soviet Union had to buy food from other countries in the 1970s.

History( USSR Full Form Hindi )

The original source of the Soviet Union was the Russian Empire. The tsar, or emperor, fell from power in a revolution that took place in 1917. In the same year, the Bolsheviks, an older group, was elected to power. This group was later renamed the Communist Party. It was involved in a civil war between 1918 and 1920. Vladimir Lenin led the Communists. The Communists won the war.
